SHINDIG return, offering once again a unique evening of multimedia entertainment & artistry. We welcome deft songstress Laura McGarrigle back from her self-imposed exile on the continent just in time to release her debut EP, as well as the brooding noise antics of Tenebrous Liar - little-known overlords of a somewhat rougher universe. Local lads Holden Girls will be on hand too, providing their seamless brand of shoegazey dream-pop.

The evening exhibits work by surrealist photographer & Art Salon contributor Karl Dmitri Bishop, commissioned to produce imagery in response to the above. His highly constructed shots veil their subjects in obscurity like scenes from dreams, exploring themes such as spirituality and gender.

Petersfield Nights present an acoustic evening featuring Sumudu and Alex Highton
http://petersfield.posterous.com/

Sumudu
Sumudu is a remarkable singer-songwriter from London.
She has sung with such musical luminaries as Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Elvis Costello, Sir Bob Geldof and Jason Rebello.
The Barnsley born songstress of Sri Lankan heritage has just single-handedly written, performed & arranged her first album Waiting For You; playing most of the instruments herself with production from Grammy Award winning producer Kipper (Sting). BBC Radio are comparing her to legendary artists Eva Cassidy, Karen Carpenter and Alison Krauss.
"It isn't a matter of IF Sumudu will be a big star it is WHEN. She has a voice that could melt a polar ice cap"
- Howard Goodall, RADIO 2

Alex Highton
"an old-fashioned troubadour in the strictest sense. Strumming gentle folk songs on his guitar, his warm and soulful voice conjures up memories of sun-kissed summer nights out on the lawn."
The Metro | One To Watch
"One of the most beautiful set of songs I've heard for a long time. Alex Highton is, in my opinion, set for very big things. A must have album for any discerning music lover."

The Miserable Rich + Adelaide's Cape + Jay Leighton

The Miserable Rich + Adelaide's Cape + Jay Leighton
The Haymakers

Dustbowl Records Presents:

THE MISERABLE RICH
http://www.myspace.com/themiserablerich

The Miserable Rich's name was inspired by an experience they had playing at the wedding of two ultra-rich aristocrats in Rome. The folk-pop string quintet was formed intending to produce 'unusual acoustic modern music'. Their music has been revered by Bearded Magazine as 'pop music that could soundtrack a nursery rhyme created by Tim Burton', and seduced the well-tuned ears of NME, Drowned in Sound and Q.

ADELAIDE'S CAPE
http://www.myspace.com/adelaidescape

Unlike The Miserable Rich, the name Adelaide's Cape has no story behind it. This hasn't stopped folk troubadour Sam Taylor from embarking on tours with Alessi's Ark and First Aid Kit already this year, as well as his own month-long headline tour of the UK and Ireland. Tipped by everyone from the BBC to For Folk's Sake and already for a range of this year's festivals, including Secret Garden Party, Adelaide's Cape is one of the UK's most exciting emerging artists.

JAY LEIGHTON
http://www.myspace.com/jayleighton

The wonderful Jay Leighton completes the lineup of this wonderfully folky evening. After an extensive European tour with Lou Rhodes, the Cambridge local plays The Haymakers just ahead of a slot at Secret Garden Party in July.

Tickets £4 advance from WeGotTickets.com, more on the door.

11th February Featuring Michael Parker a talented singer/songwriter who was at the Rhythms of the World Festival in Hitchin Priory last year.

25th February. The Main act for the evening is 'Strangeworld' .
"Strangeworld are gaining a big reputation for taking the folk/roots genre and giving it a real makeover. Played exquisitely on traditional instrumentation including cello, oboe, mandolin and accordion (amongst many others), the band use influences from the musical spectrum to create a sound that has been described as ‘mesmerizing’ . With two albums to their name and a third in the making, they are fast becoming one of the most respected acts on the scene today".

Folking Live Bracknell

11th March. The main act will be 'The Haydays'.
The Haydays formed in summer of 2008 born from a jam session between lifelong friends at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Singers Lizzie Day and Jojo Hayman grew up singing together. They are accompanied by Tom Anghileri (guitar) and Keith Day (double bass) to produce an acoustic sound rich in harmonies. Their material covers a wide range from acoustic reworks of rock and roll and soul classics, through country, folk and jazz, to covers of modern acoustic music. Lizzie and Jo are both trained performers, and Keith has 40 years of semi pro performance behind him, and is honoured to support the youngsters.

25th March. The Acoustic Café is able for the first time to Feature two main acts; the duo of Howard Roscoe and Laura Cherry, who together play a mix of self-penned music and cleverly arranged covers and Mark Gamon, a member of the acoustic band 'Sky West', this time playing solo .

As usual, in addition to the main acts of the evening we are able to field a number of floor spots.

Try it out! The Acoustic Café is fast becoming established as a venue for excellent entertainment.

The Living Room Live

The Living Room Live
CB2
The Living Room is, according to NME, the premier acoustic night in Cambridge. The event takes place fortnightly and both bands and singer/songwriters are invited to perform their work in acoustic format. This gives the audience a chance to hear acts perform their songs in a way perhaps not usually heard, although for many artists it is how the songs were originally written... perhaps even in their own living room!

The Living Room is hosted by Lord Bridge in his own living room, where the audience sit among like-minded people listening to wonderful music the way nature intended.

See the website for details of performers:
http://www.myspace.com/thelivingroomlive

Doors open at 8:30pm. Entry is £4 or £3 for 209Radio members. Tickets can be purchased in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Arrive fashionably on-time to avoid disappointment. Please be aware that the audience sit on soft furnishings on the floor but some chairs will be available on a first come first served basis.

The Living Room now has its own compilation CD (The Living Room Live) featuring live songs played at the night. The CD is available to buy at the venue, at other selected shops in Cambridge and on iTunes.

The Living Room has now featured on the UK festival scene and we have taken it, and some of the best acts we have booked for the Cambridge venue, to places such as The Secret Garden Festival, Blissfields (in 2008), Grass Roots, Strawberry Fair and more. The Living Room stage has also featured at the UK Festival Awards.
